Advising
Math majors will automatically be assigned a faculty member advisor. Students should also plan to meet with an advisor from the Fulbright Advising Center.
No math major can register for courses without first meeting with an advisor.
What an academic advisor does:
- Helps students understand the meaning and relevance of the college experience
- Assists students in developing an educational plan based on their interests, abilities and needs
- Interprets University policies, procedures and requirements
- Refers students to appropriate resources
- Addresses students' academic questions and concerns
- Adheres to the highest principles of ethical behavior
- Guides students in their selection of courses
Student responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for educational experience
- Maintain contact with advisor throughout the semester
- Assess their interests, abilities and needs and discuss these with their advisor
- Clarify their educational and personal goals
- Use the Catalog of Studies and other resources to become knowledgeable of academic requirements, policies and procedures
- Know important dates (registration, drop/add, final exams, etc.)
- Discuss their selection of courses with my advisor
- Meet regularly with their advisor to discuss their academic progress
- Arrive for appointments on time and prepared (Write down questions!)
