Percussion Audition Information
Students should be prepared to play two separate auditions. The preliminary audition will take place during the scheduled music major audition dates. For the preliminary audition students should prepare either their All-State or All-District audition material or appropriate solo literature that will showcase their technical and musical skills. Out of state students may audition via video (DVD or private YouTube video) although a live audition is preferred.
The Preliminary Audition will consist of scales, rudiments and sight-reading, and prepared solos on all of the following instruments: Concert Snare Drum, Marimba (four mallet solos encouraged but not required), and Timpani.
The Second Round Audition will be held on the University of Arkansas Campus in Fayetteville. Following the Preliminary Audition students will receive information regarding how to access the audition materials for the Second Round Audition from the band’s web site. In addition students wishing to audition for a position on the battery will need to prepare a solo of their choice on either the Rudimental Snare Drum (traditional grip) or the Tenor Drum (including exercises and/or a prepared solo).
