Graduate

Our graduate program provides rigorous training for a PhD in clinical or experimental psychology, with the latter offering specializations in social psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and neuroscience. We are a warm, collegial department that is dedicated to the success of our students. We offer individualized mentorship, rigorous coursework, generous financial resources, and ample opportunities to conduct world-class research.

Research

All students conduct research from the first year onward under the supervision of a primary faculty advisor. As students progress through the program they often collaborate with faculty other than their primary advisors to learn new methods and content areas. Students regularly present their research at top scientific conferences and publish in leading psychology journals.

Training

Our coursework supports this research by providing training in both general research methods and each student’s area of specialization. Students also have the opportunity to act as the instructor of record.

Financial Resources

Students receive funding for five years. Our students also typically receive university fellowships that, combined with a student’s usual stipend, make student take-home pay highly competitive. Moreover, our department has a generous financial endowment called the Howells Fund that we use to support student professional development. This money has been used to organize colloquia and conferences, fund conference travel, and directly support student projects.
