Amanda Wells, senior journalism major, won a competitive Dow Jones Internship to support her work as a copy editor this summer at The San Antonio Express-News, the biggest paper in the seventh-largest city in the United States.
Former editor of the The Arkansas Traveler at the U of A, Wells will be paid for 10 weeks as she joins both veteran and younger reporters in a bustling newsroom. During summer 2008, the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund will provide 103 professional internships for college students at newspapers, news services, and online publications around the country. Before beginning their internships, these students receive training at eight residential centers in the U.S.
“At a time when many news organizations are facing serious financial challenges, the work of the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund in helping foster a steady flow of talented young people into journalism is more important than ever,” said Richard J. Levine, president of the fund’s board, in announcing the grants.
