Violeta Lorenzo holds a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Florida. She earned her Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from the University of Toronto in 2011. Her area of specialization is Latin American literature, with a primary research focus in the study of Hispanic Caribbean cultures and diasporas. Other research and teaching interests include coming of age narratives, cultural essays, film, and U.S.-Caribbean politics and cultures. Dr. Lorenzo has published articles in La Habana Elegante and in La Torre (forthcoming). She is working on a book project on the discourses of nationality presented in Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican coming of age novels.
