In Bedouin culture, al-Bisat, the carpet, serves as a primary setting for socialization whether it be hosting guests, eating and drinking, or entertainment. The Al-Bisat Middle East Discussion Group at the University of Arkansas offers a unique opportunity for people of all backgrounds interested in the Middle East and North Africa to discuss topics significant to the region and beyond in an informal, outside-the-classroom setting. Al-Bisat is student-directed, but open to anyone. Conversation is informal and in English; no specific knowledge is required to participate.
