Professor Allen joined this faculty in 1993 after teaching at Louisiana State University. She earnd her Ph.D. in organizational communication from the University of Kentucky.

Allen published Strategic Communication for Sustainable Organizations: Theory and Practice (Springer, 2016).

She has presented over 60 papers at scholarly conferences and published over 40 scholarly articles and book chapters in publications representing five disciplines. Allen's book Strategic Communication for Sustainable Organizations: Theory and Practice (Springer, 2016) won the Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication (book category) at the November 2015 National Communication Association conference.

Allen has received approximatley $140,000 in grant funds to conduct various research projects and won multiple top paper awards at professional conferences.
