Rosales is a specialist in Southwestern Borderlands Studies, but would also describe himself as a 20th century U.S. Historian. He has a particular interest in masculinity and the various complexities/manifestations of machismo; his work also focuses on the cultural and gender history of the U.S. Military and oral history methodology. His forthcoming manuscript with the University of Arizona Press examines the relationship between the U.S. military and the Mexican American community. Rosales has also published three articles and one book chapter in a forthcoming anthology.
