J-Days 2019: April 1-5
The School of Journalism and Strategic Media hosts its annual J- Days celebration in the first week of April. The week kicks off with an Ice cream Social for graduating seniors, followed by a scholarship reception, and the much anticipated Roy Reed lecture series. The last event for the week is a celebration of achievements at the Lemke Journalism Project reception. SJSM faculty also host special lectures and journalists and media professionals as guest speakers throughout the week. Events are subject to change.VIEW FULL LIST OF EVENTS
SENIOR ICE CREAM SOCIAL | APRIL 2 | 1 - 2:30 p.m.
The Senior Ice Cream Social is an annual event that celebrates senior journalism students
that are about to graduate. This event is sponsored by the Alumni Association, and
encourages the participating seniors to join the association to stay connected post-graduation.
The event will be held on April 2nd from 1 - 2:30 p.m. and will be located on the
Kimpel patio, weather permitting.
ROY REED LECTURE SERIES | APRIL 3 | 7 p.m.
Josh Dawsey, White House correspondent for the Washington Post, will speak about media coverage of the White House at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 3 at the University of Arkansas’ Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House. Dawsey is the 2019 Roy Reed Lecture speaker and was named among the Forbes’ 30 under 30 in media who are defining and driving the world of news and content. The award-winning journalist scooped multiple White House stories that received worldwide coverage.
LEMKE JOURNALISM PROJECT RECEPTION | APRIL 3
The last event of J-Days is the Lemke Journalism Project reception. The Lemke Journalism Project is an annual newspaper program for high school students focusing on diversity issues in journalism and northwest Arkansas. LJP was started in 2001 LJP runs for six weeks in the spring semester. The Lemke Journalism Project culminates in the publication of the student-written Multicultural News.
