Students in all journalism sequences work together on important issues including the Freedom of Information Act and how to secure media jobs after graduation. Every spring, the student SPJ chapter sponsors the student government presidential debate, a program that airs live on campus TV station UATV. In 1998, the UA SPJ chapter was voted co-chapter of the year by the national SPJ, over college chapters in Arkansas, Louisianna, Mississippi and Tennessee.
