Math Placement for Undergraduates
If you have taken a math class for college credit or earned college credit by taking an examination (i.e. AP Calculus Exam), your prerequisite is fulfilled and you may enroll in the next math class without needing to take the Math Placement Exam.
If your ACT and/or SAT score is at the level sufficient for placement in the desired course, your prerequisite is fulfilled and you may enroll in the desired class without needing to take the Math Placement Exam. (See the table of Required Cutoff Scores.)
If you feel that you could be successful in a higher level math class than you are otherwise qualified for, we encourage you to take the Math Placement Exam and study using the included Learning Modules to meet the requirements for that higher level class.
Introductory MATH Courses
For students with questions about how our College Algebra course and lab sections correspond, visit College Algebra Placement.
Options Available
Prerequisite Credits from College Course
Course taken at University of Arkansas
Must have scored a C or higher in the prerequisite.
If you are currently in the prerequisite course and cannot enroll into a higher level course for a following semester, visit https://math.uark.edu and submit a temporary override request.
Course taken outside of the University of Arkansas
If the course is taken at another university or college, please visit https://courseequivalency.uark.edu/ to verify your credits will transfer.
Note if you have taken college classes while in high school, your credit hours may not transfer.
 Visit https://registrar.uark.edu/ for more information.
Math Placement Exam
The Math Placement Exam, also referred to as the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning Assessment (PPL), is the most current measure of aptitude for assessing mathematical backgrounds of students wanting to take MATH or STAT courses at the University of Arkansas.
Offered though ALEKS, the Math Placement Exam is an adaptive assessment that provides students with additional resources to better succeed in their courses.
For instructions on taking the assessment, visit https://math.uark.edu/undergraduate/placement/aleksppl.php.
ACT/SAT MATH Score
Your MATH score on your college entrance exam may qualify you to take certain math courses.
If this is the case, and your scores are less than a year old, you are not required to take the Math Placement Exam if your score is satisfactory.
Please refer to the Required Cutoff Scores table below to determine if your ACT/SAT score meets the requirement.
