Benjamin Lorenzo serves as Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Arkansas, where he directs the 350-member Razorback Marching Band, conducts the Symphonic Band, and teaches courses in conducting. Prior to this appointment, he served as Assistant Director of Bands at Oklahoma State University and Texas Tech University.

Active in the development of wind bands throughout Latin America, Dr. Lorenzo has conducted ensembles and presented workshops in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. He currently serves as a Music Director of the Orquesta Caucana de Vientos (OCV) in Popayan, Colombia. Since 2013, he has served as a guest conductor and section coach with the World Youth Wind Orchestra Project (WYWOP) in Schladming, Austria.

Dr. Lorenzo’s creative and scholarly interests include orchestration and wind ensemble repertoire. He continues to arrange music for several university marching bands and his wind ensemble transcription of John Corigliano’s The Red Violin Chaconne is published by Boosey & Hawkes.  In addition, he has published articles in the Journal of Band Research, the WASBE Journal, and contributed to the Teaching Music through Performance in Band series. Dr. Lorenzo has also presented sessions at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, College Band Directors National Association regional conference, and several state music education conferences.

Dr. Lorenzo holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (MM and DMA in Wind Conducting) and Florida International University (BM in Trombone Performance). Before beginning graduate study, he taught in the public schools of Florida and Texas.
