Barry Ward's primary interests are in metaphysics, philosophy of science, and philosophy of physics. His main metaphysical work develops and defends a projectivist analysis of laws of nature and objective chances. Currently, he is interested in expanding the semantical options available to projectivists in giving non-truth conditional construals of parts of our language, and in the notion of confirmation appropriate to non-truth conditional sentences. In philosophy of science, he has interests in explanation and confirmation, and the relation between the two. His current project involves exploiting some ideas about explanation to construct an objective Bayesian solution to Hempel's and Goodman's paradoxes of confirmation. He has a master's degree in theoretical physics from Trinity College, Dublin, and has interests in the Measurement Problem in Quantum Mechanics and the philosophy of time.
