BA IN CRIMINOLOGY

From Criminal Justice to Criminology

Because the B.A. in Criminology is new as of the 2019 catalog, all students who have enrolled in the Criminal Justice major will have an option to switch to CRIMBA or remain as CMJSBA.  Students who remain as CMJSBA will have through Summer 2023 to finish their requirements.

ABOUT THE FIELD OF CRIMINOLOGY

Criminology is a growing field, with a number of exciting career opportunities from a variety of agencies, industries, and organizations. The criminology major provides marketable skills and knowledge that relate to crime prevention, law enforcement, and the court system. The criminology major is comprehensive, adding the skills in research, theory, and data analytics that prepare students beyond an understanding of criminal procedures or evidence.

This major offers an overview of criminology as a field of study, educates students in the complexities of criminal behavior and public safety, and familiarizes them with the justice system processes and the causes, correlations and consequences of criminal behavior and victimization.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We offer robust undergraduate internship opportunities that help criminology students develop a better understanding of a prospective career and determine whether their interests match a chosen career path, while simultaneously gaining experience with professionals in the field.
