According to The Financial Express author, Ismail Y Syed, knowing one or more international or regional languages has become an essential factor in securing a lucrative career in international trading.

In his article, “Learning foreign languages key to success in international trade,” Syed highlights the benefits of being bilingual in the world of business. Companies are looking for graduates and executives with skills in any of the core European and international languages such as French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin.

Applicants who apply for employment with international organizations/companies but lack international languages skills are often ‘passed over’ for employment.

…knowing additional essential regional and international languages, written and verbal, gives an ‘edge’ and is increasingly seen as a lifesaver in critical situations.

Individuals who are hired for positions with international trading companies but lack skills in international language often face ridicule and are frowned upon for relying on translation services such as Google Translate, etc., when making crucial decisions under time pressure.

Companies are eager to save costs and are increasingly reluctant to fork out expensive translation and legal service fees for its otherwise competent executives who lack the knowledge of regional/one of the official international languages.
