Fernando Riva Awarded 2021 Fulbright Summer Stipend
Fernando Riva, assistant professor of Spanish, is working on his second book project, entitled Books of Secret Wisdom. The Development of Magic in the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages (Aragón and Castile, 1106-1434). This book, currently under contract with the University of Toronto Press, will analyze the process of absorption and assimilation of the concept of magic and its relationship to political power in the Iberian Peninsula from the beginning of the 12th century until the first third of the 14th century.
"I am glad to receive this award because it demonstrates that Hispanomedieval Studies at the University of Arkansas are vigorous and that, in spite of the more than 800 or 900 years that have elapsed between those people and us, we still share many questions and problems that we haven´t solved yet"
