Minor Requirements

The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures offers many nine to supplement other Degree programs. All of our Minors require at least 15 Credit hours (18 for Classical Studies) in 3000 level or above courses, completed with at least a ‘C’ or higher.  Available Minors and their specific courses are as follows:

15 hours in courses 3000 or above. Specific courses required are:

  • CHIN 3003 Advanced Chinese            
  • CHIN 3033 Chinese Conversation
  • CHIN 4333 Chinese Business Language

 AND two of the following:

  • CHIN 3983 Advanced Modern Chinese: Composition & Newspaper Readings

9 hours of Ancient Greek or Latin courses 2000 or above.

6 hours of additional work in classical languages and/or specific classical studies-related electives, to be selected from the following courses:

 3 hours of a classical studies colloquium (CLST 4003H).

Standard French Major

Business Orientation Major

15 hours in courses 3000 or above. Specific courses required are: 

  • RUSS 3003: Advanced Russian I or II 
  • RUSS 4113 or RUSS 4133: Special Themes in Russian literature or Survey of the Russian Lit. Since 1917. Taught in English. 

+ 9 hours of elective courses at the 3000-/4000-level that are related to Russian history, Eurasia, International and European studies. Students can choose other courses that are not listed here, which must be at least one-third Russian or Eurasian-centered, and must be approved by the program director.
