ABOUT SOCIOLOGY

The Department of Sociology and Criminology offers a major leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  Sociology is a comprehensive liberal arts degree that provides an excellent foundation and springboard for working in today's diverse social, organizational and business environments. The Sociology major provides marketable skills in research, theory, and data analytics and knowledge related to social institutions, interactions, cultures, social inequality, and organizations.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We offer robust undergraduate internship opportunities that help sociology students develop a better understanding of a prospective career and determine whether their interests match a chosen career path, while simultaneously gaining experience with professionals in the field.

Fulbright College Writing Requirements


Prior to graduation, all Sociology and/or Criminology majors are required to complete two writing assignments: the Fulbright College Writing Requirement and the Reflective Essay. For instructions, resources, and more information, please visit the webpages linked below.

MAJOR AND MINOR OPTIONS

Our students also may pursue a dependent major in sociology and African and African American studies.



ONLINE MINOR PROGRAMS

The department also offers a 100% online Criminal Justice Minor and a 100% online Sociology Minor, which count toward the Interdisciplinary Majors. A student must notify the department of her or his intent to minor. Students can do this online by completing the Fulbright College program update form.
