Welcome to the University of Arkansas Herbarium (UARK)
The University of Arkansas Herbarium was founded in 1875 when Professor Francis LeRoy Harvey began collecting, preserving, and cataloging specimens of vascular plants for scientific study. Today, the collection numbers approximately 125,000 vascular plant and bryophyte specimens, making it the largest herbarium in the state. The herbarium is a university resource within the Department of Biological Sciences and houses important collections from Professor Harvey, Delzie Demaree, and Dwight M. Moore.
The collection and associated literature library are valuable resources for those investigating the flora of Arkansas and surrounding region and are available for use by university faculty, qualified students and visiting researchers. We are also available for group tours of the facility, by appointment.
