Ph.D. in Math

The Ph.D. degree usually takes about five to six years to complete after the bachelor's degree.  At least 60 hours of course work is required.  The candidate must also fulfill the course requirements for the Master of Science degree.  At least 18 Dissertation hours are required.  The student must enroll in at least one dissertation hour (MATH 700V) each semester (including summer) once the student has achieved Ph.D. candidacy.  

The main requirement for the Ph.D. degree is the dissertation.  This is based on original research, conducted under the supervision of a faculty advisor.
