Graduate

The department is committed to excellence in both teaching and research. Most faculty members work closely with students, directing doctoral dissertations and individual reading course work.

Many faculty have been awarded external funding for their research from the National Science Foundation (NSF).  A number are internationally renowned experts in their fields, often lecturing around the world at conferences and other institutions.
The graduate student population is about half female from the United States and abroad.

Almost all students are supported financially through teaching assistantships, which includes all tuition. On average, about 4 students receive Ph.D. degrees and 15 students M.S. degrees per year. Our doctoral students usually find positions in academia, while our masters students pursue industrial careers or teach at the secondary or community college level.
