The University Opera Theatre is a premier performing ensemble at the University of Arkansas, primarily comprised of graduate and undergraduate voice majors. Under the direction of Opera Director, David Malis, a former principal artist at the Metropolitan Opera, UA Opera Theatre presents two major productions per year, a staged concert performance of varied Operatic scenes with piano and one fully staged with orchestra, costumes, sets, makeup, and supertitles.
The primary venue for the UA Opera Theatre is the beautiful 580-seat Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center, centrally located on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Recent fully staged productions include The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti, Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, and Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
