Auditions for Inspirational Chorale are approximately 10 minutes long with Dr. Murdock. In preparation for the audition, students are expected to prepare the following:
- Prepared Piece: Students should learn their part in Manuel's "Alleluia." The piece should be learned independently and may be performed using sheet music. An accompaniment track will be played during the audition. The audition will begin at p.5, measure 17, and ends on p.12, measure 48 (Quarter Note = 60). Here is a link to the track that will play during your audition. If you should be accepted into the ensemble, you will be responsible for knowing the entire piece by the first day of classes.
- Sight-reading: Students will expected to sight-read a single line of sheet music with accuracy and musicality.
- Aural skills: Students will be expected to listen to an excerpt of Gospel or Popular music, extract their part and sing it back.
- Pitch Matching: Students may be required to complete a series of pitch matching exercises, as determined by the conductor.
Returning members of the Chorale will audition on August 18 and 19. New students will audition on August 20 and 21. Sign-up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board outside of MUSC 335 by Monday, August 13th. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Murdock at email@example.com.
