Sturgis International Fellows

Qualifications at the Time of Application
- Be a current degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate student in Fulbright College.
- Have a record of high academic achievement and outstanding leadership.
- Undergraduate students must be:
- A full-time student with a declared major in Fulbright College
- A rising junior or rising senior in the Fulbright College Honors Program
- Pursuing a career with international emphasis
- Graduate students:
- You must be a full-time graduate student at the time of application with a declared degree area anchored in Fulbright College
- If awarded the Sturgis International Fellowship, you must continue to be enrolled as a degree-seeking graduate student for the duration of the award
Funding
- Intended to support longer-term study of a semester or more (at least four continuous months outside of the U.S.)
- Up to ten Sturgis International Fellowships are available each year
- Funding shall pay for expenses that may include, but not be limited to:
- Tuition and/or fees to the University of Arkansas.
- Fees associated with preparing for international travel such as obtaining a passport or immunizations.
- Tuition and/or fees to an international host institution, organization, or family.
- Expenses associated with the international travel assignment including transportation, housing, and personal expenses abroad.
- Expenses associated with an internship or research project including foreign or domestic travel, destination housing, and personal expenses.
- Any equipment approved in the budget becomes the property of the University of Arkansas
Application
The application deadline is March 1st:
- By March 1st at 4:00 p.m.:
- Complete the online application through the Hogs Abroad portal, found HERE
- Online application includes:
- Supplemental questionnaire
- Support letter from host institution or school
- Preliminary budget
- Résumé (not to exceed two pages)
- Current University of Arkansas transcript
- Two essays:
- A project proposal not to exceed 1000 words
- A personal statement not to exceed 500 words
- Online application includes:
- Two faculty must submit letters of recommendation in support of your application. (Faculty should submit their letters of recommendation directly to Mary Ellen Hartford at mhartfo@uark.edu)
- Complete the online application through the Hogs Abroad portal, found HERE
By April 1st, winning fellows will be selected and notified. Finalists and fellows are chosen by the selection committee. Winners must formally accept the award and submit a final budget to Mary Ellen Hartford (mhartfo@uark.edu) no later than April 30th.
Award Amount: $15,500
