Areas of Study

 Art Education

The art education program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with K-12 Arkansas state teacher certification and is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

 Art History

The discipline of art history focuses on the study of visual objects. In art history classes, the activity is not the creation of art works (as in studio art courses), but rather the analysis of the art forms that have been created from prehistory to the present and produced in a variety of cultures.

 Ceramics

The students that major in this program learn a variety of techniques and processes in the medium. They also learn historical and contemporary ideas in ceramics and art in both the undergraduate and graduate level.

 Drawing

Our drawing program builds on a strong foundation in formal and perceptual training, followed by an intense exploration of the diversity of contemporary drawing media and processes. Emphasis is placed on developing a solid base of technical skill as well as creative problem solving skills.

Graphic Design students critiquing work in class.

In fall 2016, the School of Art introduced the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design offering students an enchanced focus on human-centered and interaction design, typography, branding and design research. The area provides coursework in print, web and motion design, with a focus on the traditional design process as well as the latest software techniques.
